Here at Durham County Council, we are continuously looking for ways to improve the services we deliver to the children and young people in our care, and we have recently created a new post to lead the development and expansion of services to support our children in care and care leavers.  Our Practice Lead for Children in Care will report to the Head of Children’s Social Care and oversee a major investment in these services, including a programme of opening new homes for our children and the development of an enhanced support offer for our foster carers.  We want to keep our children in care within the county and close to their communities and ensure that high quality services continue to support them into adulthood.    Working closely with our highly supportive Members and partners, we are clear about the need to create a new and enhanced offer backed by tangible resources.

We are therefore seeking candidates with a social work qualification who have a passion and determination to improve the life chances of children and young people in care.  This is not about ‘steady state’ management – instead this post will give you the chance to innovate and develop new approaches, as well as playing a major role in our improvement journey as we aim for excellence across our services.
